The TPI 6 coefficient, or the number of cutting teeth per inch, determines the purpose of the saw blade. The TPI value is closely related to the quality of the cut. The general rule is that the more teeth per centimeter of length, the smoother the cut will be. Saw blades with a lower TPI index will cause edge tearing, which in turn will affect the aesthetics of the cut. The amount of TPI is also important when selecting cutting speed. Saw blades with teeth further apart will be faster. Teeth gathered at a shorter length will in turn cut slower, but the cut will be smoother and more precise.
