Brake lines

The brake lines are the copper tubes that carry the brake fluid to the car's braking system. These copper pipes are connected to the brake hoses. The brake hoses have the same function as the brake hoses, but the brake hoses are made of rubber. Due to the rubber construction, the brake hoses are more flexible than the brake lines. This flexibility ensures that the brake hoses can easily move in places where, for example, the wheels and suspension of the car are located. Brake lines, on the other hand, with their copper construction, are more durable and wear less quickly than the brake hoses. The copper pipes are easy to bend and can be easily connected with a coupling piece or intermediate piece.

Broken brake line

A brake line generally does not break easily and will therefore not have to be replaced often. However, if a defect does occur, it can be very dangerous and you will have to replace the pipe as soon as possible. A defective line ensures that no brake fluid is transported to the brake system, on which it is no longer possible to brake (properly). You can recognize a defect in the brake line by the loss of pressure under the brake pedal. You will normally feel some back pressure being applied from the brake pedal. A broken brake line will ensure that the pedal can be pressed very easily and loosely. In addition, in the event of a leak, there will bfe a puddle of brake fluid under the car and you will notice that the braking power is greatly reduced. Replace brake line

Replacing a brake line is a relatively simple job that you can perform yourself with a little technical insight. Use the following steps for this:

1. Drain the brake fluid. Use a container to collect the brake fluid.

2. Carefully disconnect the old hoses and measure the old brake hose. This way you can see exactly what dimensions the new brake line should have.

3. Use strong, sharp pliers to cut the new pipe to the desired dimensions.

4. Next you will have to bend the pipe at certain points. Always use a designated pliers for this purpose. This prevents kinks in the pipes.

5. When installing the new pipe, it is important to take into account vibrations that will occur while driving. Make sure that the pipe cannot vibrate against anything.

6. Flare the ends of the pipe and secure it to the caliper or cylinder with a nipple.

7. Fill the brake fluid reservoir with fresh brake fluid.

8. Bleed the brake system.
