How does a motorcycle clutch work

In the housing, the clutch plates are attached to the outside of the housing and the intermediate plates are attached to the inside. When you press the clutch, the springs compress. This causes the plates to move apart and creates play between the crankshaft and the gearbox, allowing you to shift gears. Because these are all moving parts under power, the plates and springs are susceptible to damage.
