Replacing gas struts

Just as most car part, gas struts are subjected to wear. Damage or corrosion is often the reason that a gas spring eventually fails. A gas pressure spring has a lot to endure, especially in the winter. Condensation may form in the strut which, when the temperature drops below zero, freezes. The most common reason for a gas strut to fail, however, is loss of pressure. The bonnet or boot lid can then no longer be lifted properly and will no longer be of any support. Other causes for failure are oil leakages and breaking fixing points. If you want to replace the gas springs, we recommend replacing both boot struts at once. Both gas struts experience the same wear over time, for which it´s strongly recommended replacing them at the same time.

Installing gas struts

It´s easy to install gas struts yourself. In general, this takes just a few minutes. It is important to be careful with the bar in the gas strut. If the gas strut is damaged, the gas leaks from of the strut, after which it will no longer work properly. It is best to install the gas strut with the piston rod facing down. You can then release the retaining spring. You can press it back into position after assembly. Then remove the safety clip. Installing the new gas spring works in the reverse order. Does your new gas strut have one metal plate? Then you start assembling from this side.
