Defective indicators

As already mentioned, indicators can also break. Not only the glass may break or the holder can come off in an accident, various technical malfunctions may also occur. For example, the wiring may break or contact breakage may occur in the indicator holder. Short circuit in the lighting system or malfunctioning lamps due to damage and / or oxidation, are also possible. Of course, the blinkers can also break due to a small accident with a pole or another road user. When flashers are defective, various malfunctions can occur. The lights may for example work occasionally, blink very quickly, and in some cases other lights such as the rear light or fog light can start blinking as well. Because it is difficult to see if the lights still work properly while driving, we recommend to regularly check the indicators visually. This is best done together with someone or put the hazard warning lighting on and have a look yourself. Are the indicators defect? Then you need to replace it as soon as possible. By law, working blinkers are a must - you will not pass your MOT or a police safety inspection without them. It needs without saying, they are very important for road safety.

Replacing the indicator light

You may have your blinkers replaced at a garage, but then the bill may add up. A bit of a shame because replacing an indicator is a job that you can easily do yourself. You can of course choose to repair the turn signals, but it is often cheaper to simply purchase new ones. Use the following steps to replace the complete indicator unit. Please note, the method may differ per brand, make and car model.

1. First disconnect the "minus" pole of the battery;

2. Then remove the housing from the bumper;

3. Squeeze the locking connection and remove the wiring;

4. Then remove the indicator light and replace it with a new one.
